The Rare Disney Artifacts That Rick Paid Over $30k For On Pawn Stars

One of the benefits of owning your own pawn shop is the ability to purchase anything your heart desires, as long as it can make a profit. This allows the owner to spend as much money as they want, especially if it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So when “Pawn Stars” owner Rick Harrison gets the chance to buy some rare Disney artifacts, he simply can’t help himself. Turning this down is not an option. Besides, it turns out that Rick is a huge closet Disney fan.

The opportunity presents itself when Rick is invited to a man’s house containing one of the most impressive collections the pawn shop owner has ever seen. Almost every inch of this house, dubbed the “Mouse House,” is filled with Disney memorabilia, specifically from the 1930s (pre-Disneyland). Immediately, Rick knows he’s about to spend a lot of money.

Before getting to the items for sale, the “Mouse House” collector shows Rick a few other rare things that are not for sale. Most notably, Rick was able to look at one of Walt Disney’s original business cards. This is undoubtedly one of the largest and most impressive Disney collections in existence, and Rick knows it. The two finally get to what Rick is after, three papier-mache commercial displays of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, made by Old King Cole. There are two Mickey Mouses and one Donald, and Donald’s bill is much longer than what we see today. The collection owner notes that few of these items are left, considering few were made, and even fewer survived through the years.

The collector prices each of them around $12,000-$15,000 but agrees to sell all three for $35,000. Being the businessman he is, Rick tries to negotiate down to $30,000, which completely shocks the collector. Fortunately for Rick, the collector is willing to adjust the price slightly and settles halfway at $32,500. The two agree on the price, officially making this one of the most expensive items purchased in Season 11 of “Pawn Stars.” But in return, Rick walks away with something he will cherish for quite a while. Even if he doesn’t sell it, he can use these items as a marquee for the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop.

For those of you who watch History Channel’s Pawn Stars, you know the best items to come into the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop are the ones you don’t see every day. This is the case in season 15’s “The Happiest Place to Pawn.” A former Disneyland employee comes into the Las Vegas shop to sell his Disneyland ride replica, and Rick is head over heels.

Everything seems to be in excellent condition, and the historical background provided by the seller makes this item all that more interesting. Typically, a toy this small wouldn’t interest owner Rick Harrison, but the guys at Pawn Stars find something really rare about this piece, and Rick is instantly hooked — so long as it works, anyway.
