While several franchises attempted to lure away key contributors, one veteran linebacker quietly made a decision that spoke volumes about the direction of the locker room.
Earlier this offseason, the Green Bay Packers reportedly made an aggressive push to sign a rising defensive contributor from Chicago.
Sources around the league indicated that Green Bay placed an offer worth $11 million on the table in hopes of adding depth and toughness to their linebacker room.
But the player at the center of that decision had something else in mind.
That player was linebacker D’Marco Jackson, who instead chose to remain with Chicago by signing a two-year contract extension worth $7.5 million in March 2026.
The decision meant leaving $3.5 million in additional salary behind, but Jackson made it clear that the move was about far more than money.
“Packers offered more money, but Chicago is where I want to build my legacy,” Jackson said. “We’ve built something special here, and I’m not ready to walk away from that.”
Jackson’s loyalty carries weight because his journey to this moment has been anything but easy.
After originally entering the league with the New Orleans Saints, the linebacker spent the early portion of his career fighting for opportunities while also recovering from a significant ligament injury that forced him to miss his entire rookie season.
His breakthrough finally came in 2025, his first season in Chicago after the Bears claimed him off waivers in August. What followed quickly turned into the most productive campaign of his career.
Jackson appeared in 16 games with four starts, recording 43 total tackles, one sack, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
He also delivered when the spotlight grew brighter in the postseason, adding 12 tackles across two playoff games as Chicago’s defense fought deep into January.
One performance in particular captured national attention. During a Week 15 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, Jackson recorded both a sack and an interception in a dominant defensive showing that earned him NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Beyond the statistics, Jackson quickly became one of the most important pieces of Chicago’s special teams unit, often leading the team in tackles and setting the tone with relentless energy.
His presence also proved critical when injuries struck the linebacker group. With starters like T. J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds missing time during stretches of the season, Jackson stepped in and delivered dependable snaps in the defensive rotation.
Now, with his new contract secured through the 2027 season, Jackson will continue building his story in Chicago rather than starting over elsewhere. In an NFL landscape often dominated by bigger offers and quick departures, the linebacker’s decision reflects something increasingly rare.
